SEECO offers group operated
switches for substation switching applications in a variety of
configurations, including side-break, center-break, center "Vee",
and double end-break switches. All switches are available in
both parallel insulator and Vee insulator configurations.
Voltages range from 15 to 230 kV with continuous current ratings of
600, 1200, and 2000 amp.
Typical applications for SEECO substation switches include high side
disconnects, isolating
and by-passing breakers, bus sectionalizing, and isolating
arrestors, metering equipment, and other apparatus.
SEECO substation switches have over 40 years of proven field
experience. Each switch configuration is designed for
maintenance-free operation in extreme environmental and operating
conditions. The operating effort to open and close the
switches is minimal, even at higher voltages. The switch
design employs a positive toggle when in the fully closed position,
so the switch stays closed under adverse conditions, such as
excessive structure deflection, vibration, seismic events, and high
current or momentary conditions.
The current-carrying path is all
copper with silver contact buttons, which provide a silver to copper
current transfer; no aluminum is ever used in the current path. The
current ratings are based on a 30 degree temperature rise. Hinge and
jaw assemblies are high pressure devices and are permanently sealed,
requiring no maintenance over the life of the switch. The design of
the jaw (female) contacts is very forgiving, allowing a substantial amount
of structure movement and deflection without diminishing
contact pressure or effectiveness of current transfer.
Substation switches can also be supplied with other complementary SEECO products, including motor
operators, pre-assembled trusses, vacuum interrupters, ground
switches, and
externally mounted auxiliary contacts.
Arcing
Horns
Wipe-type
disconnect horns of hard drawn copper are standard equipment on all
substation group operated switches. Wipe-type horns protect the main
switch contacts in opening and closing but are not rated for interruption
of line charging or transforming magnetizing currents.
For more
demanding interruption requirements, high-speed, snap-out arcing
horns can be provided for interruption of charging and magnetizing
currents. Two styles of high-speed horns are available: a
conventional tapered beryllium horn for typical interruption applications,
and a spring-loaded, stored energy horn for higher current interruption
requirements.
Monoruptr(r) Vacuum Interrupters
The addition of SEECO MONORUPTR®
vacuum interrupters to side-break and double end-break switches provides full load-break
capabilities, allowing the switch to be operated under conditions that
exceed the capabilities of conventional arcing horn devices. Interrupter switches allow breakers to be
reserved for their intended duty of fault interruptions, reducing breaker
wear, and reducing or eliminating service interruptions for switching
purposes.
